Since our founding, Ginza Tomato has been consistently committed to developing safe and reliable ingredients. Guided by our motto, “Helping women look and feel more beautiful and youthful than the neighbor next door,” we developed and launched our signature “Shark Fin Collagen” in 2000. Featured on TV shopping channels and the internet, it ignited a massive collagen boom across Japan.
The inspiration for developing “Shark Fin Collagen” came more than 20 years ago when we learned at a medical conference that shark fin is an incredibly rich source of collagen. Fortunately, thanks to the connections of my father, who was born in Kesennuma and served as the head of the local fisheries cooperative, we were able to secure a stable supply of high-quality shark fin. Our collagen products, made by extracting and concentrating shark fin essence, were a world-first and remain globally unique. Looking back, it was undoubtedly our “Shark Fin Collagen” that drove the collagen boom and established shark fin as a recognized beauty superfood.
Following this success, we developed genuine pearl powder using international Akoya pearls, which went on to win numerous awards, particularly in Europe. Most recently, in collaboration with ten international scientists and after six years of intensive research, Ginza Tomato succeeded in becoming the first in the world to extract placenta extract from the placenta (placental tissue) of the Damask rose. This breakthrough was built upon half a century of deep expertise and advanced technology in the field of plant placenta.
