Akoya Pearl Powder

This authentic pearl powder is refined and finely pulverized using only the nacre layer of domestically sourced in Japan from Japanese Akoya pearls.

Ginza Tomato’s “Authentic Pearl Powder” utilizes domestic Japanese Akoya pearls, which are globally acclaimed as exquisite jewelry. Furthermore, we carefully harvest only the luminous nacre (mother-of-pearl) layer of these Akoya pearls to refine and finely pulverize them.

The nacre of domestic Akoya pearls is composed of over 90% minerals and approximately 5% conchiolin protein, all of which are known to be active, beneficial components. Since ancient times, pearl powder has been treated as a crude drug in Eastern medicine for its “skin-beautifying, whitening,” and “sedative (calming)” effects. In addition to these well-known benefits, Ginza Tomato has discovered brand-new efficacies in pearl powder that were previously unrecognized.

The Key Feature of Our Authentic Pearl Powder

Feature 1: Conchiolin Protein

Conchiolin, a unique protein found exclusively in pearls, is composed of 17 different amino acids and has been reported to stimulate cellular activity. It is already widely used in cosmetics as a signature beauty ingredient. Notably, domestic Japanese Akoya pearls contain approximately twice as much conchiolin as Chinese freshwater pearls.

Feature 2: Essential Minerals

Nurtured in the sea, Akoya pearl powder is rich in minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Approximately 95% of these minerals consist of calcium carbonate. Calcium plays a vital role in enabling neurotransmitters to function properly; when it is deficient, these functions are disrupted, leading to irritability and restlessness. Since ancient times, pearl powder has been said to possess a sedative effect, suggesting that its ability to soothe irritability was understood through centuries of experience. Beyond this, these minerals perform a variety of other essential functions necessary for maintaining life.

Production Method of Our Authentic Pearl Powder

The pearls that Japan is proud of refer to ‘Hon-shinju’ (genuine pearls) nurtured inside Akoya oysters. They contain a core in the center made from a seashell. For Ginza Tomato’s pearl powder, the core is carefully removed from each individual pearl, utilizing only the nacre (mother-of-pearl layer) which possesses the pearl’s characteristic luster. Using a proprietary manufacturing process, it is finely pulverized to an average particle size of 300 mesh.

The Origin Story of Our Authentic Pearl Powder

Since ancient times, women the world over have shared an unchanging desire: to be more beautiful than anyone else. It is said that the secret behind the legendary beauty of Cleopatra and Yang Guifei—two of the world’s three greatest beauties—was their lifelong use of pearl powder. Today, science has demystified pearls, revealing their tangible benefits for health and beauty. Historically, what Europeans coveted most was the highly prestigious Japanese Akoya genuine pearl.

Despite the incredible power of these pearls, they remain largely unrecognized by Japanese women today. We wanted to ensure pearls are seen as more than just jewelry, and we deeply desire for women across Japan who seek health and beauty to discover their benefits. It was this passion that drove us to develop our genuine pearl powder. In recognition of our research and development, we have received numerous accolades worldwide, including prestigious awards in Europe.
